Andrew Blythe: Cartography of the Unknown

Cartography of the Unknown:The Art of Andrew Blythe
Play Video

Andrew Blythe is a self-taught artist whose work is supported by Toi Ora Live Art Trust, a community arts centre in Arch Hill which provides studio space and tuition for people who have experienced mental illness.

A turbulent adolescence saw Andrew in and out of hospital as well as living rough on the streets of Auckland. During this time he would draw in notebooks with pencil and Indian ink as an expression of his experience.

Andrew presented his first solo show at Auckland’s Satellite Gallery in 2008 and that same year was included in the New York Outsider Art Fair. Since then, his work has been shown in France, Belgium and Australia and has been acquired by collectors on both sides of the Tasman - as well as both sides of the Atlantic.
